A History of Bad Ideas: Questionable Mental Health Approaches Still Being Utilized Today  REGISTRATION

Bad ideas do not die. Unfortunately, some questionable approaches in mental health are still being utilized today. In this workshop, participants will take a journey through history to explore some concerning approaches to mental health and how to protect clients from similar practices today. The workshop will inspire counselors to advocate for and protect clients not only in their offices but within the larger community.

Objectives:

1. Participants will understand potential reasons why “bad ideas” in counseling and mental health are still being used today

2. Participants will explore a variety of questionable approaches to mental health in history, includes those that are still being utilized today

3. Participants will be able to identify ways to determine or spot potentially dangerous approaches to mental health
