CPCS Virtual Training Summit

 CPCS VIRTUAL Training Summit:   July 28, 29, 30, 2021.  Certification for Supervisor Requirements, CPCS

This application form and the prerequisite workshops (CE certificates) must be completed to attend the CPCS Training Summit. The CPCS Training Summit is geared toward providing the education and credentialing to become a Certified Professional Counselor Supervisor.  All those who complete the application, verification, online/and the live interactive coursework, will be granted, at the end of the summit,  the Certification as a Professional Counselors Supervisor, CPCS 

Prerequirements for the CPCS:  A Copy of your License  http://verify.sos.ga.gov/verification.   What degree did you put on your LPC application?   If you used your Masters degree to get your LPC you must wait THREE (3) years to apply to be a supervisor.

You will need to complete the following Courses through the LPCA On-Demand LMS System:

Foundations of Clinical Supervision (3 CE Hours)

Growing Clinicians (3 CE Hours)

The CPCS Summit Faculty for the July 28-30  VIRTUAL Training include:

 Foundations (3 hours) Megan Boyd, PhD, LPC, CPCS  Megan Boyd is a Counselor Educator, Supervisor and Trainer. Dr. Boyd has been involved with LPCA’s CPCS for the past several years. In working and researching the outcomes and training with provisionally licensed staff, Dr. Boyd consults with CPCS’s throughout the site in improving our role as Licensure Supervisors. Dr. Boyd has also served as an adjunct faculty member for three clinical mental health programs. Dr. Boyd’s clinical experience includes working in community-based work servicing children, adolescents and families involved with multiple systems such as foster care, juvenile justice, school systems, etc.

Ethical Supervision in the Digital Age  (3 hours) Tommy Black, PhD, LPC, CPCS  Dr. Tommy Black is a Licensed Professional Counselor who has been in private practice since 1998. He served as a member of the Georgia Composite Board for Professional Counselors, Social Workers, and Marriage & Family Therapists for nine years. Seven of these years, he was a member of the Cognizant (Complaint) Committee. During his time on the Composite Board, Dr. Black worked diligently to update the rules related to Professional Counselors to ensure the quality of services provided to the citizens of Georgia.  Dr. Black also serves as the Chair of the Rules Committee and on the Advisory Panel for the National Board of Forensic Evaluators (NBFE). His primary work is in forensic assessments to aid with family, criminal, and civil. A veteran of the Gulf War (1990-1991) while serving in the U.S. Army, Dr. Black has years of personal and professional experience in understanding and helping others cope with the specific trials of military services for active-duty individuals and their families.

Addressing Race, Ethnicity and Culture in Clinical Supervision (3 hours)  LaVerne Hanes Collins, PhD, NCC, ACS, BC-TMH, LPC, LCMHC For 25 years, Dr. Collins has been a counselor, trainer, consultant, author, textbook contributor, and speaker. Nationally and internationally, she is recognized as an advocate for underserved populations. Her career history includes serving as program director for the NBCC Foundation and interim vice president for NBCC’s Foundation and Professional Services Division, in addition to roles as Counselor, Clinical Supervisor; Grants Manager; Clinical Training Coordinator, and Executive Director. Since 2011, she has owned an Atlanta-based private practice and training agency: New Seasons Counseling, Training, and Consulting. She also serves as the clinical director at Restoration Place Counseling in Greensboro.  Her experience also includes having served as Adjunct Faculty at the University of North Carolina-Greensboro (UNCG).  Her professional interests include multicultural counselor training on race, faith, culture, and trauma; genocide awareness; women’s issues; and substance abuse assessment. Dr. Collins earned her bachelor’s degree from Syracuse University; her MSEd (CACREP-accredited) in community counseling from Duquesne University; and PhD in Christian counseling from South Florida Bible College and Seminary. 

Ethics of Supervision Ryan Day, PhD, LPC, CPCS Dr. Ryan Day is a full-time clinical faculty at Southern New Hampshire University. Dr. Day has over 14 years of clinical counseling experience working in a variety of settings. He is a licensed professional counselor (LPC), certified school counselor, and certified clinical trauma professional Level-II (CCTP-II). His clinical work specializes in trauma treatment, couples and families, and career counseling services. Dr. Day was selected as the 2016 Counselor Educator of the Year by the Licensed Professional Counselor Association of Georgia and as the 2016-2017 College of Education and Helping Professions Distinguished Teacher of the Year at Columbus State University. Dr. Day earned his Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from Auburn University, an MA in Community Counseling from Argosy University Atlanta, and a Post-Master’s Certificate in Marriage and Family Therapy from Columbus State University.

Ethical Decision Making in Supervision (3 hours) David Markwell, PhD, LPC, NCC, ACS, CPCS, CART, EAS-C  David is a licensed and board certified Professional Counselor in Georgia and Alabama.  David is in private practice and has office locations in Marietta (Shallowford Road) and (Powder Spring Street) as well as McCaysville Georgia.  He is a Certified Professional Counselor Supervisor (CPCS) and an Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS).  He is a periodic guest on the Atlanta morning radio show "Bailey and Southside" (Rock 100.5) and a 2020 "Best of Cobb" Nominee as a Mental Health Professional.   

Models of Supervision (3 hours) Jennifer Yaeger, LPC, CPCS Jennifer Yaeger is an LPC and CPCS who has worked in all levels of care providing inpatient, intensive outpatient, outpatient, and teletherapy in a variety of settings including: hospitals, community mental health centers, and private practices. She has developed programs to treat depression, anxiety, trauma resolution, relational conflicts and difficulties, and substance abuse. She has presented workshops on a variety of topics for other professionals. She currently has an online program, “Getting Your Needs Met,” as well as a workbook, 21 Day Expressive Art Therapy Journal for Emotional Expression available for purchase. Additionally, she currently owns Sea Glass Therapy, a practice in Newnan, GA that offers counseling, psychiatric services, yoga for mental health, massage therapy, self-care retail items, and various workshops. She does have openings for supervisees.

CPCS 3-Day Training Summit Schedule will cover:

  • Foundations of Supervision
  • Methods/Models of Supervision
  • Legal and Ethical Issues in Supervision
  • Specialized/Advanced Techniques in Supervision
  • A total of 18 Synchronous Supervision CE hours will be earned
