CE Guidelines
Need assistance with completing the CE application process?
LPCA is a recognized professional association that has been authorized by the GA Composite Board of Professional Counselors, Social Workers, and Marriage and Family Therapists (Rule 135-9) to approve Continuing Education (CE) hours for clinical workshops.
LPCA approval indicates that the CE workshop content & presenter qualifications meet or exceed the requirements set by the GA Composite Board, Rule 135-9. CE Guidelines are periodically updated for compliance.

This may answer some questions about the CE application process, inform you on what we approve or don't approve, and will help you create a successful CE application packet.

CE application fees are NON-REFUNDABLE.

Who is Qualified to be a Presenter?
A licensed, certified, or otherwise qualified professional
Proof of expertise in the topic being presented can be shown in the following ways:
- CV, resume, or short biography depicting professional experience
- List of academic or CE training
- Awards/recognition of experience

CE INVOICE INFORMATION
Application will not be processed until payment is received.
For OPEN INVOICES:
- Login to your account and click on My Profile
- After the profile page loads, hover over the "My Profile" tab
- Select Invoices from the drop down menu for a list of invoices.
- Payments can be made 24/7 on our website.

Requirements based on CE Type:
ETHICS: Must reference ethics codes/guidelines from ACA, AMHCA, GA Composite Board, and/or NBCC. Ethics workshops may never be ONLINE. Refer to Licensing board rule 135-9.
TELEMENTAL HEALTH: Must reference GA Composite Board Rule 135-11. Presenters must display extensive TMH training in CV/resume/bio.
SUPERVISION: Must reference CPCS Code of Ethics and ethics codes/guidelines from ACA, AMHCA, GA Composite Board, and/or NBCC.
ALL SUPERVISION CE Applications must indicate the REQUIRED CONTENT AREA. Choose one content area per workshop: Foundations, Models/Methods, Legal/Ethical OR Specialized/Advanced.
What is Self-Study, Independent Study, On-Demand, Asynchronous Continuing Education?
Self-study: Books or magazines or CDs or DVRs or Flyers (the word “self-study” is verbiage created by NBCC)
Independent Study:
The Licensing board rules 135-9(c) means a variety of self-directed professional study activities including. but not limited to, writing papers or books for presentation or publication: making presentations on major professional issues or programs; reading professional journals and books; preparing for initial consultation, teaching, or training assignments; and engaging in Independent study (think self-determining without oversight), research, or tutorial projects. No more than 5 CE hours of Independent Study under Related Hours are accepted.
On-Demand:
Pre-recorded videos and/or PowerPoint presentations with an evaluation and quiz. Also called E-Learning or Learning Management Systems (LMS), examples: Zoom or GoToWebinar. Think university graduate level course on-line quality which has oversight.
Asynchronous:
per the licensing board rule 135-9(b) Asynchronous activities are online courses or a recording of a previously held program that one can access on one's own schedule.

ONLY LPCA Approved CE workshops requesting advertising are listed on the Website/Newsletter
NO REFUNDS ON CE APPLICATION FEEs
NON-APPROVED TOPICS: Yoga, Reiki, retreats, restorative practices; self-care focused on the therapist vs. the client; topics outside of LPC Scope of Practice (Title 43-10A) or content not counseling/clinical in nature.
As of August 28, 2017, LPCA no longer approves Mental Health First Aid (for adults or youth). The content is too general and primarily intended to educate the public, not clinicians.
CE CERTIFICATES MUST INCLUDE:
Your Company Name and contact information, name of attendee, workshop title, objectives, presenter(s) name & credentials, date of event, location, type and amount of CEs allotted, Synchronous or Asynchronous, approval number, name of approving body, signature of authorized person on certificate and the three (3) Objectives.

CE CHANGE NEEDED?
For website CE Calendar Advertisements, please verify contents of posting within 1-2 days of application approval. There is a fee for adding/changing dates/adding more dates.
