FAQs

I am a provider applying for CE approval. What we DO NOT approve?

We do not approve:

  • Yoga, reiki, retreats, restorative practices
  • Self-care focused on the therapist vs. the client;
  • Topics outside of LPC Scope of Practice (O.C.G.A 43-10A) or content not counseling/clinical in nature.

How do I get approval for Ethics or Telemental Health or Supervision CEs?

ETHICS: CE applications (program description & objectives) must reference ethics codes/guidelines from ACA, AMHCA, GA Composite Board, and/or NBCC. 100% of the content must be ethics to get full approval of Ethics. Ethics workshops may never be asynchronous. Please refer to https://sos.ga.gov/page/counseling-board-rules

TELEMENTAL HEALTH: Must meet GA Composite Board Rule 135-11. Presenters must have extensive TMH training in CV/resume/bio.

SUPERVISION: Must reference CPCS Code of Ethics and ethics codes/guidelines from ACA, AMHCA, GA Composite Board, and/or NBCC.

ALL SUPERVISION CE Applications must indicate the REQUIRED CONTENT AREA. Choose one content area per workshop: Foundations, Models/Methods, Legal/Ethical OR Specialized/Advanced.

Who can be a presenter?

A licensed, certified, or otherwise qualified professional. Proof of expertise in the topic being presented can be shown in the following ways:

  • CV, resume, or short biography depicting professional experience
  • List of academic or CE training
  • Awards/recognition of experience

What needs to be on my CE certificate?

CE CERTIFICATES MUST INCLUDE:

  • Your Company Name
  • Contact Information
  • Name of Attendee
  • Workshop Title
  • Presenter(s) Name & Credentials
  • Date of Event
  • Location of Event
  • Type (Core or Ethics and/or TeleMental and/or Supervision
  • Amount of CEs Allotted
  • Approval Number
  • Name of Approving Body
  • Signature of Authorized Person on Certificate and the Three (3) Objectives.

Why was my application denied?

Applications are denied for a few main reasons:

  • The content of the workshop was not clinical or in the scope of practice for an LPC (O.C.G.A 43-10A).
  • We do not approve: Yoga, enneagram, Reiki, retreats, restorative practices; self-care focused on the therapist vs. the client; topics outside of LPC Scope of Practice (O.C.G.A 43-10A) or content not counseling/clinical in nature. As of August 28, 2017, LPCA no longer approves Mental Health First Aid (for adults or youth).
  • The content is too general and primarily intended to educate the public, not clinicians.
  • The presenter was not qualified.
  • The resume/bio/information provided about the presenter is reviewed in relation to the topic being presented. If you do not provide information about your ability to present on the topic, your application may be denied.

How early do I need to submit my application?

The earlier the better to avoid late fees, to allow the CE committee time to appropriately review your application, and for interested clinicians to learn of your approved event.

There is a late fee for applications submitted less than 3 weeks prior to the workshop date.
Please allow 7-10 business days for completed and paid applications to be reviewed and processed.
No post approval given; meaning we do not approve workshops for CEs after the workshop has occurred.

Can I advertise my event on the LPCA website?

Yes! The LPCA Website receives over 10,000 hits a month on the CE website. It's very popular. Read more.

For LPCA members: $35 fee for website listing on our calendar

For non-members: $45 fee for website listing on our calendar

What do I need to do after the event?

Submit a copy, via email, of your Attendance List/Sign-in Sheets, within 2 weeks following the workshop, to [email protected].
