This is offered both as a Live, In-Person Training (limited to allow for Social Distancing) and Live Streaming. The 18-hour summit will focus upon Substance Use Disorders, issues related to addiction and Recovery.

PRESENTATIONS:
Only Men, Women and Children Get AIDS, A Training September 1st, 9:00 am - 4:15 pm (Lunch break 12:15 pm - 1:00 pm, Lunch Provided In-Person) The program is an interactive mix of lecture and audience participation. It seeks to update professionals across all areas on the ever changing epidemic of HIV and AIDS. This work will approach the most recent medical information with the latest prevention models for a variety of populations, and share information regarding HIV Testing. The presentation also discusses the intersection of substance use disorders and HIV. Multiple risk factors will also be discussed. The course will also share the Atlanta and State of Georgia state of HIV and AIDS, management of cases and new infections.
The Mechanisms of Medication Assisted Treatments September 2nd, 9:00 am - 4:15 pm (Lunch break 12:15 pm - 1:00 pm, Lunch Provided In-Person) Despite the success of M.A.T. programs, the stigma associated with it causes shame and guilt for many, especially when a clinician state to the client “why trade one drug for another? especially since both are Opioids.” The judgement about this particular form of treatment is enough to prevent many substance use disorder clients from getting the help they need. Additionally, this workshop will focus upon Addiction and utilizing MAT as part of the recovery process for those struggling with Opioid, Opiate or Alcohol addictions. Focus will be upon the three classes of medications used to treat addiction: Agonists, Partial Agonists and Antagonists.
Psychopharmacology 2020 (This session is pre-recorded) September 3rd, 9:00 am - 12:15 pm The workshop will also highlight the body of knowledge of psychotropic medications including the latest anti-depressants, anti-psychotics, anti-anxiety, mood stabilizers, psycho-stimulants, and herbal psychotropic. A recent review of Marijuana will be included in this presentation.
The Ethics of Substance Use Assessment September 3rd 1:00 pm - 4:15 pm This interactive workshop will provide the tools for clinicians to assess the severity of substance use disorders. Participants will be provided with several sample instruments.Vignettes will illustrate the principles that are reviewed. The ethical concerns of diagnosis will also be addressed.
PRESENTERS:
Dr. Kym Leonard Mwansa is a Board-Certified Doctor of Nursing Practice who partners with local, national, and international governments and communities to bring awareness to Mental health and addiction medicine, specifically the Opioid epidemic.
Merrill Norton, PharmD, DPH, ICCDPD is a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy with his specialty areas to include psychopharmacology and addiction pharmacy. He has also been a faculty member of the Fairleigh-Dickinson University Postdoctoral Training Program in the Masters of Psychopharmacology, Alliant International University of San Francisco College of Psychology, University of Georgia School of Continuing Education, and Berry College in the areas of Psychopharmacology and Addiction Pharmacy. His area of specialty in addiction pharmacy is the management of chronic pain in the addicted patient.
Timothy "Tim" Robinson, LPC, CPCS, CAS-F, President 2020 graduated from Stetson University. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Health care Providers in The Addictive Disorders. Tim earned many certifications such as in Counseling Supervision, Grief counseling, Addiction Specialist, Anger Management Specialist and Opioid Treatment Provider. He has been a researcher and public speaker on a vast number of subject pertaining to counseling and mental health. Email: [email protected]
Kelly Michael Moselle, MA.,MS, CAM-ll is the Director of Administration and Member Services at LPCA. Kelly has worked in the field of addiction and recovery since 2008. He currently serves as the Director of Administration and Member Services at the Licensed Professional Counselors Association of Georgia, while maintaining a small in private practice. Additionally, Kelly has offered groups in codependency, managing recovery, anger management and clinical supervision. Most recently, Kelly was honored as the recipient of Caron’s 2019 Educational Excellence Award for demonstrating exceptional wisdom and leadership in supporting and embracing programs that educate students, families and communities in the awareness of substance use disorders.
