Working Systemically with At-risk African American Youth

This presentation is focused on implementing systemic strategies and techniques in counseling with at-risk African American youth. Systemic resources and interventions are needed to best serve at-risk African American youth. The presenter will use personal experiences and case examples to explain the benefits of systemic services. This presentation will conclude with tools and resources for counselors who provide services to at-risk African American youth in a variety of clinical settings.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

Objective 1:
Provide an overview of the experiences of at-risk African American Youth

Objective 2:
Discuss systemic counseling approaches and how they are used in counseling

Objective 3:
Discuss implementation of systemic interventions for counseling services with at-risk African American youth

Presenter:  Dr. Justin C. Muller, LaGrange College Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program

Dr. Muller is an assistant professor at LaGrange College in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program. Dr. Muller serves as the program's Clinical Coordinator. Dr. Muller is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.
