National Human Trafficking Awareness Day on January 11th, this workshop brings attention to a crime that leaves a lasting toll on human life, families, and communities around the world. 

This is a live, synchronous 3 hour webinar.

 This workshop will explain the prevalence of DMST in America and the challenges of responding to the physical and mental health needs of the survivors.

Human trafficking is considered a modern form of slavery. This illegal act involves the use of force, fraud, or coercion to obtain labor or sex. Traffickers use violence, manipulation, or false promises to lure their victims into trafficking situations. Trafficking victims usually experience physical and/or psychological abuse. They might also endure sexual abuse, food and sleep deprivation, threats to family members, and isolation from the outside world. Family members of the victim may also get threatened.

Learning objectives: 

1. The learner will understand what DMST is and its prevalence in America.

2. The learner will understand the challenges presented to health care workers by DMST survivors.

3.  The learner will understand the importance of a trauma informed model of care for this population.  

Presenters:

Brenda Gray, RN, MSN  Brenda is the President of Straight Street Life Center, Inc.  Brenda speaks regularly to educate others about the problem of Domestic Minors in Sex Trafficking.  She also teaches nursing students, health care professionals, and other workers involved in the care of DMST victims. Brenda has worked with victims of DMST for the past ten years.  She first worked with them as a volunteer, then retired from her full time nursing career to devote her energy to the cause full-time.

Jessica Frazier is a Wonder Woman administrator on fire to connect clients to beneficial resources to aid progress. She flexes her business acumen as the Founder and Director of Straight Street Life Center, Inc., dedicated to making a difference by informing the public and intervening in the sex trade of minors. As a community collaborator with organizations that serve adolescents, Jessica is described by her colleagues as an effective communicator and active listener who is a compassionate, motivated, and caring leader who exudes a unique brand of professionalism. Jessica has worked tirelessly for 25+ years in the social services industry in detention centers,
psychiatric hospitals, and group homes. She has spearheaded and facilitated public forums and initiatives, including Respect Group and Conflict Resolution, and provides awareness of Domestic Minor Sex Trafficking. She is a published author, including Letters to Ms. Jessica and Parenting, a DMST Survivor.

Jessica has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration; She is a Certified Adolescent Life Coach, Certified Domestic Minor Sex Trafficking Trainer, NAMI Family-to-Family Trainer, and ASIST Suicide Intervention Certified. She is a conflict resolution negotiator who fights hard to ensure her clients recognize that faith is the foundation of their metamorphosis as she helps them rebuild their lives. She enjoys networking and serving her community and is a Community Organizing Resources for Excellence (CORE) board member and a member of the National Alliance on Mental Health: Georgia and the Douglas County Chamber of Commerce.
