In 1980 a group of mental health experts formed predictions on what the next decade would look like for psychotherapy. Experts have continued to gather with the most recent meeting in 2021. What will psychotherapy look like in 2030? What changes and challenges are coming?

Learning objectives:

-         Describe the history behind the Delphi method and the Delphi Psychotherapy panel.

-         Discuss some of the past and present findings from the Delphi panels regarding psychotherapy.

-         Analyze ideas and concerns about the future of psychotherapy along with sharing of goals and outcomes.

 10:30 am – 11:45 am – Ethical Considerations for the Counselor Compact, Legislative Updates, Medicare Opt-In, 988 and Composite Rules

 As the landscape of professional counseling continues to evolve with new regulations, compacts, and ethical challenges, it's imperative for practitioners to stay at the forefront of these changes. This one-hour workshop offers professional counselors an opportunity to delve into the most recent developments affecting their practice. With a focus on understanding and navigating the Compact, newly enacted laws, and emerging ethical considerations, participants will be equipped to enhance their practice.

 Learning objectives:

 -         Participants will gain a general overview of the counseling Compact, including its purpose and some ethical considerations.

 -         Participants will understand new legislation related to professional counseling and licensure requirements

 -         Participants will understand the key issues related to Medicare Opt-in /Out and 988 usages

12:30 pm – 1:30 pm - Reactive Attachment Disorder/Trauma: Recognizing Symptoms in Children and Identification of Treatment Options

Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD) is a disorder of social/emotional functioning in which the child has difficulty forming healthy attachments with parents/caregivers, and children with RAD are likely to have a complex presentation of symptoms.  The purpose of this workshop is to provide an overview of the characteristics, behaviors, and subtypes of children and to highlight trauma with respect to RAD symptomatology.  Additionally, an overview of assessments, treatment options, and other resources will be provided.

Learning objectives:

-         Participants will be able to define trauma and how it can lead to an attachment disorder

-         Participants will be able to identify the 4 RAD subtypes

-         Participants will be able to identify assessment and treatment options for RAD

1:45 pm – 2:45 pm - Play Therapy Fundamentals

Play therapy utilizes play to help children in expressing their feelings and their thoughts.  Play is a child’s language.  The purpose of this workshop is to provide an overview of the two main types of play therapy, the different play therapy modalities, the stages of treatment, the symbolic meaning of toys, and examples of play therapy interventions that can be used with children.   

Learning objectives:

-         Participants will be able to define the two main types of play therapy

-         Participants will be able to identify several different modalities of play therapy

-         Participants will be able to identify several play therapy interventions they can use with children

3:00 pm – 4:00 pm - Obsessive Compulsive Disorder - Diagnosis and Treatment

 Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a mental disorder in which people experience unwanted and repeated thoughts, feelings, images, or sensations (obsessions) and engage in behaviors or mental acts (compulsions) in response. In the training, participants will learn specifics about what OCD is and how to identify it in clients. An overview about the common subtypes of OCD and how to recognize those subtypes will be provided. As well as an introduction of how to begin treatment and when to refer out will be reviewed.

 Learning objectives:

 -By the end of the training, participants should be able to identify signs of OCD and administer an appropriate assessment to clients to determine a diagnosis.

 -Participants should also be able to recognize when and how to begin treating signs of OCD and recognize when clients with OCD should be referred out.
